Saying Goodbye

My father-in-law is one of the kindest men I know.

Honestly in the seventeen plus years that I've known him I don't think I've heard him say an unkind word about anyone.

He and my mother-in-law have always seemed like such a good team.

They worked together on so many projects with hardly a word back and forth.

Somehow they always knew what the other one was thinking.

But, now, part of that team is leaving.

He is pulling out ahead in this race called "life."

He might have a few days, or maybe a week.

But then he is going home.

And his family is left wondering.

How on earth do you say goodbye?

    1. Thank you Gloria! This seems like a hard time to go through this, but I guess it wouldn't be easy no matter when it happened.

  3. Oh, I'm so sorry. I lost my father in law way too early..over 20 years ago...and very suddenly, too, without goodbyes. Big hugs to you, dear Rebecca. Do they live close?

    1. Thanks Betsy! No, they live about three hours south of us. He has been sick a long time, and hubby was down to see him a couple weeks ago. He is planning to go again this weekend.

  5. You don't say "Good-by" just see you later.
    Then your heart breaks.
But the memories will take you back to the good tmes and feelings.
    And you can breath again.

    1. So true! The hard part is that after they are gone you sometimes forget. You think of something you want to ask them or tell them...... so hard.

  8. We said "see you later" to my father-in-law two years ago. It was especially hard because we had no warning at all.

But what a wonderful blessing to be part of a family that has been a blessing through their life.

    Blessings,
    Gina
